New Toolbox Resouces added for Media Literacy Lesson Planning 2011Here are some sites that I have found in getting ready to pull together some long range plans for Media Literacy (Julie Richer)
  • www.adbuzz.com Just found this a week ago. Why didn't I find it last year? This is a great site for getting some clips, commercials, jingles etc. to use as hooks and examples for media lessons

  • http://mediaeducationlab.com WOW!!!!!!! Thanks Maryland! This is a comprehensive set of Lessons with handouts etc. giving a great starting point for Media Literacy Units for both Elementary and Middle School. Tonnes of great stuff here and other great links such as the http://mypopstudio.com which would be a great site to add to your list of sites for students to explore when they complete work early or as part of a jigsaw activity where kids share what they learned at different sites.
  • http://mnet.hypernet.ca This is the site that I used last year for Passport to the Internet. This provided the framework and backbone of my Term 1 lessons and activities in Junior Media Classes. Teacher User name onedt10 Password wut4kx and Student Username oneds10 and Password 8ngefy. The only issue with this site that I had was that it doesn't save their progress on the passports. The kids really liked this site a lot!
  • http://mediameltdown.net/ I also used this site last year and the kids enjoyed it and I was able to use some of the True and False questions on the term quiz. We had the graphic novel in the library and that was how I stumbled on the site to go with it. This would be exhausted after one lesson but still another virtual place to take students
  • http://pbskids.org/dontbuyit/ This was a great site I used last year in Term 2. The kids also really loved exploring this site. It is organized into 3 main topics to raise awareness about the food and entertainment industry tricks used in advertising. It also has a call to action for kids regarding media. Some great activities on this site that get kids thinking critically as well as some simple creative tools.

WebTools4U2Use - This wiki was created for school library media specialists by Dr. Donna Baumbach and Dr. Judy Lee, University of Central Florida. Teacher-Librarian Wiki- Joyce Valenza's wiki to promote teacher-librarian collaboration. It is a space to SHARE our best wisdom and our best instruction--the new understandings, lessons, units, handouts, rubrics, presentations, images, and teaching tips that have been either rotting in our file cabinets or posted and lonely on our individual sites.

All over the world, librarians are developing successful programs and doing innovative things with technology that no one outside of their library knows about. There are lots of great blogs out there sharing information about the profession, but there is no one place where all of this information is collected and organized. That's what we're trying to do.
